One Green Paperclip, A Pashmina, $100 Keg Gift Card - and a Custom Cake and Face Painting

Well, people, it never rains but it pours. The One Green Paperclip in Fort McMurray experiment had stalled out a bit due to illness, busy-ness, and general "life-getting-in-the-way-ness". The Intrepid Junior Bloggers and I are back in action, though, and we are quite delighted to announce our newest trade - and what we now have up for offer!

As you recall we had in hand a lovely soft ivory pashmina from Nisa Collection, and a kindly (and anonymously) donated $100 Keg Gift Card. I received a message on Twitter from someone who I've become quite fond of, and they were interested in a trade. Their offer? Two hours of face painting for an upcoming party - and a custom cake, to either be used at the party and/or for another occasion.

Now I'm aware of how popular cake decorating has become. I'm quite aware of shows like Cake Boss, and I have my very own local cupcake artist who supplies the goods for most of the parties I host these days. What I didn't realize is that one local young woman is quite talented in the art of cake decorating - and I was blown away when she sent photos of her work:

April and I became friends on Twitter, and I've long been drooling over her photos and descriptions of meals she has made and items she has baked (and she includes photos, too, often making me consider dropping my laptop and rushing over to her house with my hands out like some starving orphan). I happen to be a big fan of food, just not a fan of making it, and so April has provided me with a great deal of joy with her food porn photos on Twitter (and I've invited myself to her house for dinner - one of these days I swear I am just going to show up!). April is also a mom to two little boys, active in our social media world, sweet and thoughtful, and frankly just one of my favourite people here. So, when she offered face painting and cake I was intrigued.

So, she makes cakes for kids, obviously, but that's not all. She also makes cakes for occasions like baby showers, such as these baby bump ones:

And some that are a bit more risque, like this one (and others, but I'm not sharing those pics - hey, my kids read this, people!)...

The point is that April doesn't "make cakes" - she makes cake art. I know at the parties I host how the custom cupcakes I order tend to draw a lot of attention - so I am quite certain someone out there is dying for a custom cake for a special occasion. April has offered not only a cake but also the face painting, which can be for the same event, a different event, or even given away (you know, if you're like me and just want to get your paws on some custom cake). This trade item has a value of $300 (and people, I know what I pay for custom cupcakes, and they are worth every damn penny, so you know custom cake - and face painting services! - are too).

So, this of course brings the Intrepid Junior Bloggers and I to our next question. Fort Mac, through the kindness and generosity of April we now have for offer a gift certificate for a custom cake and face painting services - wanna trade? You know you want cake - so help us to keep One Green Paperclip in Fort McMurray moving along! You can find me at McMurray Musings - let's trade and then you can invite me over for cake, okay? :)
